Admission to West Virginia University

If you are considering enrolling at WVU, either as a new or a transfer student, you will need to contact International Admissions. If you are currently an international student at another school in the United States, you will need to submit a Transfer in Form to International Admissions.

Visa Information

When you receive your notification of acceptance to West Virginia University, the next step is to apply for a visa. You will need to have a WVU issued I-20 or DS-2019 to make your consular appointment for your visa. In order to obtain an I-20 or DS-2019 you will need to submit the following items through an online application link to International Students and Scholars Services.

Upon receiving your admission letter by email, please follow the instructions detailed in your admission letter to submit the following information:

Your attachments should be in PDF version. Other versions may be deemed suspicious and not be opened. Your documents will be reviewed, once they are received. If they meet our requirements, an I-20/DS-2019 will be issued and sent via FedEx, UPS, or DHL to the mailing address you submitted.

It’s important to submit a mailing address which will not be changing in at least 2-3 months. Submitting an incomplete application, non English translated or illegible documents will delay the review of your documents and I-20/DS-2019 processing.

Your official admission letter along with your I-20 or DS-2019 will be sent to you in approximately two (2) weeks from the date all of the required documentation is received by International Students and Scholars Services. Your application will be queued for processing ONLY if you have provided all the required documents outlined above.

Information about U.S. consulate policies, procedures, and requirements can be obtained from the U.S. Department of State.
